Tsunesaburo Makiguchi was born on June 6, 1871. He is best known as the founder of the Sokagakkai, but he had spent a lifetime as an educator, developing his "value creating" educational philosophy, before founding the Sokagakkai in 1930. Defining the three greatest values in life as goodness, beauty, and gain, he held that through education people should increase their ability to create value and thus find happiness.
